With climate change, energy security and a slumping economy major concerns, renewable energy, including wind, solar, geothermal and biomass, are available to respond to these needs while creating domestic employment. Among the biggest constraints to the growth of renewables will be the availability of qualified personnel, ranging from electrical engineers and scientists through field technicians, wildlife biologists, county planners, and the people to train all the above. Among the greatest potential benefits from the growth in renewables is the potential for hundreds of thousands of new, high paying domestic “green collar” jobs in virtually all regions of the country. Dr. Walker will discuss these challenges and opportunities in more detail in his presentation.
